About the solution
Impact Goal: Expand access to quality education, promote gender equity, and improve livelihoods through income-linked finance.
Description: Chancen International (CI) is a social impact organisation dedicated to improving education, livelihoods, and financial inclusion in Africa, with a special emphasis on empowering women. CI introduces an innovative financing model through Income Share Agreements (ISAs), allowing students to repay a percentage of their income after graduation. This model enables access to high-quality vocational training and tertiary education for populations traditionally excluded due to financial barriers and the inadequate quality of education programmes.
The Future of Work Fund (FWF) 1.0, a blended investment SPV launched in 2021, aims to finance ISAs for 10,000 excluded youth in Rwanda, South Africa, and Kenya by 2025. With a first close of $9 million in commitments and a robust pipeline of education providers, the FWF 1.0 seeks to establish ISAs as a new asset class for youth development in Sub-Saharan Africa, focusing on gender equity. The fund offers a sustainable model to mobilise private capital for educational financing, enabling students from disadvantaged backgrounds to access quality education without the burden of traditional loans.
